On January 18, “Desperate Housewives” celebrates its 100th episode. “The Best Thing That Ever Could Have Happened” reveals the secrets that turned these housewives so desperate.
What could be better than a travel back in time?
On a December morning, housewives’ first season opened with Mary Alice Young’ suicide.
Outside her house were Susan Mayer (Teri Hatcher), Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria Parker), Bree Van de Kamp (Marcia Cross) and Edie Britt (Nicollette Sheridan). This Sunday, flashbacks take us on a wild trip even before the pilot to show how each woman changed after that incident. “We wanted to take people back to the pilot and remind them where it started”, said the show’s creator, Marc Cherry.
When Eli Scruggs, the neighborhood’s handyman, dies, the ladies realize that this simple man marked everyone’s lives. Gabrielle remembers how Eli helped her accommodate and make new friends when she moved in Wisteria Lane. He kept Susan straight each time a man disillusioned her. Edie and Eli had a special friendship and with a small gesture, this man changed Bree’s life.
Through these stories, the show’s fans will have the opportunity to discover why Gabrielle became so selfish, why Susan went from “being idealistic to a little cynical” about love or when Lynette dropped the idea of a full time career like a hot potato.
Even the actresses are surprised. “When I started the show, I thought Gabrielle was hysterical and way over the top”, said Eva Longoria Parker. “But in the scene in the 100th that goes before the pilot, she was worse, if you could believe it.”
