Last season, with the new love transcends death mythology, “Ghost Whisperer” shook all our assumptions, threading unknown territory. This fall, jumping five years into the future a la “Desperate Housewives”, the series’ fifth season is given out that being darker, deeper and islanded with supernatural intrigues. Proud parents of a baby boy, Melinda and Jim/Sam start afresh together. However, the earthbound spirits with unfinished business aren’t touched at the sight of the happy couple and keep fanning the flame.
Bringing in a baby into the plot almost always ruins a show, but I think this case will prove to be the exception to the rule. As Carl the Watcher told Melinda, her son inherited her gift, but with one important difference that will have far-reaching consequences. He will be able to do what she can “and much, much more”. Aiden sees and senses things that his mother Melinda can’t… beings both good and very bad, which don’t want to be seen. They can make an adult’s heart leap into his mouth, not to mention that we’re talking here about a five year old child.
Some of Aiden’s gifts become apparent right from the first episode. Melinda throws a party for his son and we catch a glimpse of what happened five years ago. Amber Heaton, a young woman who slipped her breath while giving birth to her baby, believes her child died and his soul is in Aiden’s body. Since then, she is haunting him every year on his birthday. As the episode unfolds, we learn that Tyler, Amber’ son, survived and fate keeps an unexpected twist in store for him. Meanwhile, Sam re-invents himself as a physician. “Birthday Presence” airs on September 25… Don’t miss it!
