Lost Season 5 Episode 14 The Variable
Lost Season 5 Episode 14 “The Variable” Preview

Centered on Miles, “Some Like It Hoth” was an episode seasoned with drama, a few revealing moments and jokes abounding in metaphors. We found out that the Dharma kids got a very special education. They studied Egyptology, but most of all the hieroglyphics. A lesson on the board featured a classification of the hieroglyphics and also a description on stages of the phraseology’s evolution defining the symbolic, phonetic or figurative meaning of the hieroglyphs. Did they know about the island’s connection to ancient Egyptian mythology?
A few shreds deciphered the mystery that surrounded the construction of the Swan station after Radzinsky’s plans and the electromagnetism experiments which already were making victims. They learned on the hard way what the consequences are. Let’s not forget that Locke partially watched the orientation film of “Dr. Marvin Candle” who was giving the tip off: “Do not put any metal in the chamber!”
It’s also quite interesting that the Swan was built on the territory of The Others…
Could be a tacit agreement in the middle?
The episode could be also seen as the Hurley and Miles comedy hour. The jokes about the polar bears, jumps in time or unusual situations flooded into a place. Though, the best parts of Miles’ story were the moments on the island when it’s revealed that Dr. Pierre Chang was his father. Somehow, probably making a time shift, Daniel got back from Ann Arbor, where he was working at a Dharma research center.
After a two week break, “Lost” returns tomorrow night with “The Variable”… the 100th episode of the series. Jack disagrees with Kate on the measures which they must take to save their fellows island survivors. Meanwhile, John’s power continues to rise solidifying his position as the leader of The Others. It will be interesting to see how he will influence young Ben’s development mostly because Locke knows very well that later they become rivals. He doesn’t look the kind of man ready to do whatever it takes to change the future.
The episode promises to center on Daniel Faraday who will reveal what he knows about the island. Could he know what The Incident is and how it led to the disaster at the Swan station? There are only three episodes left and so many burning questions… Is Desmond still alive after being shot? Who will die? Who will end up together? Will the survivors remain stuck in 1977 or will they travel in time again? It remains to be seen…
In my opinion, “The Variable” will be the opposite of “The Constant”, but with “Lost” you never know for sure what happens next. The 100th episode of the series airs on April 29. You definitely wouldn’t like to miss it… Enjoy the preview and the sneak peaks!
