Monk-300x207 in Monk... Genius has side effects

Despite his obsessive-compulsive disorder, Detective Adrian Monk was a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department. Then, his world crashed when the tragic murder of his wife Trudy and his inability to solve the case, left him shattered and wracked with obsessions and phobias. With the help of therapy and the support of his loyal friends and devoted personal assistant, Monk’s condition improved. He hopes to convince his former boss, Captain Leland Stottlemeyer, to allow him to return to the force. Until then, he works as a consultant and private detective, taking on even the most impossible cases.

During the first season, Stottlemeyer wavers between admiration for Monk and annoyance at his eccentricities. As the series develops, the captain becomes Adrian’s friend. However, Monk’s many fears – including crowds, germs, heights and even milk – pose daily challenges for him and the people around him. His personal assistant, Sharona Fleming, a nurse and single mother, got tired of the frustrating job and remarried her husband, after three seasons. Adrian hires Natalie Teeger. Like Sharona, a divorcee with a son named Benjy, Natalie is a single parent, a widow with a daughter named Julie. Natalie is not a nurse but a former bartender with a fresh perspective on “Mr. Monk”, as she addresses her new boss.

Monk remains a brilliant detective, unconventional, but brilliant. He has a vast intelligence, gift for crime scene analysis and legendary powers of observation. “Monk” returns in January with new episodes.
