Now that this year is almost over… what would you say to take a look at the new tv shows which will premiere in 2009? We can no longer figure out what is the magical recipe for a successful tv show, as the good ones are being demolished and disappear while the others develop receiving new episodes…

On January 21, FOX sees the truth in “Lie To Me”… From the executive producers of “24″ and “Arrested Development” and writer Samuel Baum comes a drama series inspired by a real life specialist who can detect clues embedded in the human body, face and voice to expose the truth in criminal investigations. Being a human lie detector and having the help of his team of psychologists and researchers, Dr. Cal Lightman can uncover the deepest secrets and crack the hardest cases.

Now, let’s meet Dr. Cal Lightman’s team!

Dr. Gillian Foster is a gifted psychologist and Cal’s professional partner, a woman whose guidance Cal needs. Will Loker is Cal’s lead researcher and he is so aware of the human tendency to lie that he’s decided to uncomplicate matters and practice what he terms “radical honesty”
He says everything on his mind at all times. Ria Torres, the newest member of the team, arrives at the truth differently by acting more on instinct and using her natural ability to read body language and catch clues.

Although there are many similarities between “Lie To Me” and “The Mentalist”
it seems to be a really great show. Could it be the next hit?

Who hasn’t heard until now about “Dollhouse”, programmed by FOX to air on February 13? The new show brand Joss Whedon revolves around a very secret and illegal place where wishes come true. Clients with the right connections and enough money can hire “Dolls”, people who have been programmed to perfectly fulfill the needs and desires of their clients.

The “Dolls” or “Actives” are implanted with false memories and skills and then they’re hired for different assignments, crimes, fantasies and occasional good deeds. They don’t just perform their hired roles… they become whomever the client wants or needs them to be. Between missions, their thoughts, feelings and experiences are erased by Topher, the Dollhouse’s genius programmer…
but what happens when someone remembers?

With an exciting premise, fresh and innovative, this show will be FOX’s new big hit.

ABC gambles on a new tv show with detectives, “Castle”. Having the premiere on March 9, the show has as central character a successful murder-mystery writer, Richard Castle. It seems one of his fans liked his books just a bit too much and starts running around killing people as described in Castle’s books. He is called in by the NYPD homicide department to help them catch the killer. In my opinion “Castle” can be compared with “A Murder Of Crows”.

ABC also cooks a comedy with the premiere on March 24. The creator of “Veronica Mars”, Rob Thomas, shaped a funny story about a man who believes he is Cupid, who has been sent to Earth by Zeus to help 100 couples get together as punishment for his arrogance.

Unfortunately, “Cupid” seems less interesting than “Veronica Mars”, the show that made Rob Thomas famous. More than that… isn’t an original concept, actually it’s very resembling to “Hitch”. They are really running out of ideas.

On March 19, NBC will broadcast a new show… an inspiring exploration of the timeless David vs. Goliath struggle, only in this case there’s a mystery who will win. From the director of the blockbuster movie “I Am Legend” comes “Kings”. In Shiloh, a modern metropolis under siege, the fighting gone on for too long and many lives were vainly humbled in the dust.

David Shepherd, a brave young soldier, rescues the king’s son from enemy territory and finally brings peace. Suddenly, David gains women’s affection, including the king’s daughter. When he’s promoted captain, the line between his allies and enemies will blur as the power players in the kingdom go to great lengths to see him fall.

Let’s go back to ABC! On April 8 will premiere “The Unusuals”, a comedic procedural. Casey Schrager, a vice detective, finds herself a part of the homicide squad thanks to her honesty. It’s unbelievable that with only a few hours earlier she was working undercover as a prostitute. Sometimes life takes unexpected turns.

As Casey gets to know her new co-workers she discovers that each one has their own sense of humor and their own secrets. They are by turns: nursing a brain tumor, terrified of dying, deeply religious and lusting after a fellow cop. Casey herself has her own secrets, she grew up as a member of New York’s high society and detests that money can buy justice.

If is well promoted, “The Unusuals” could be ABC’s new big hit.

On April 9, CBS programmed “Harper’s Island”… a horror/drama, described as “Scream” meets “10 Little Indians”. “Harper’s Island” follows a group of friends which attend a wedding celebration on a secluded island off the coast of Seattle.

What they don’t know is they are there to die. Friendships are tested while with each episode someone will die and until the end of these thirteen episodes all mysteries will be solved, the criminal revealed and only a few will survive… Or not? All the actors from the main cast were changed… so the trailer is as a rough guide.

“The Goode Family”is an upcoming ABCanimated sitcom from Mike Judge, the creator of “King Of The Hill”. The show is set to premiere in March The Goode family is an obsessively “green” family who live a politically correct lifestyle. The reason why their last name is Goode is because they are always trying to do good, but as things never end up the way they should, their actions have funny effects.
