Clark in The young Superman
In October 1989, a meteor shower destroyed most of the town of Smallville, Kansas. This tragic event brought Jonathan and Martha Kent what they have always wanted, a son they named Clark.

As the years passed, he became a special young man, but that’s not all. As if dealing with the changes of adolescence isn’t enough, Clark must also cope with many challenges like: his origin, his emerging superpowers and keep them secret, a variety of individuals with powers given by the green rocks and a friendship with a young Lex Luthor.

Although he is not Superman yet, Clark uses his newfound powers to help his town stay safe from strange threats. He is not aware of all of his powers at the beginning of the show. Throughout the series, Clark gains and adjusts to new abilities. In season one is X-ray vision, heat vision in season two and super hearing in season three. In the sixth season he gains a new ability, this time is his super breath.

As the series progresses, Clark also learns about new vulnerabilities. In the first season is the “green meteor rocks” (kryptonite) that can weak and potentially kill him. Various other forms of kryptonite appear as the show continues, each with a different effect. Red kryptonite removes Clark’s inhibitions. It allows him the chance to get things off his chest. Black kryptonite separates his Kryptonian personality from his humanity into two distinct physical forms, silver kryptonite makes him paranoid to the point that he believes everyone wants to reveal his secret to the world and blue kryptonite completely strips him of all his abilities for as long as he stays in contact with it.

Cl in The young Superman

Clark has to find time for the other two girls of his life: Chloe and Lana. Chloe is the editor of the high school newspaper. Her journalistic curiosity – always wanting to “expose falsehoods” and “know the truth” – causes tension with her friends, especially when she is digging into Clark’s past. In the early seasons, Chloe hides the fact that she is in love with Clark. Lana has a “hole in her heart” because of the loss of her parents and feels empathy for everyone. She feels connected to Clark and they start a romantic relationship.

“Smallville” also shows us how Lex Luthor develops from a friend of Clark’s in his enemy. All in all, the series is really worth to be watched and why not re-watched… Enjoy!
