Interview with the Eleventh Doctor Who…

Ms in We have a new Doctor Who

The search for the next Doctor Who came to an end. On January 3, BBC announced Matt Smith as the new Time Lord. At just 26 years old, David Tennant’s replacement is the youngest actor who takes on this coveted role. He won the part over Christmas but had to keep the secret until the public announcement last weekend.

“As soon as Matt walked through the door and blew us away with a bold and brand new take on the Time Lord, we knew we had our man. The way he said the lines, the way he looked, his hair. Everything was spot on”, said new producer Steven Moffat. “2010 is a long time away but rest assured the Eleventh Doctor is coming and the universe has never been so safe.

The relatively unknown actor is on a cloud nine. “I’m flabbergasted, haven’t slept really, to be honest. It’s sort of an iconic part of our culture. My grandfather knows about it, my dad knows about it. We’ve been watching it since 1963. It has the iconic status that Robin Hood or Sherlock Holmes (has)… and I’m taking that on. It’s my responsibility. It’s nerve wracking. Exciting! When I got the role I paced around the room for about three days because I didn’t know what to do. I was just smiling and thought ‘I’m the Doctor!’ It’s weird”, said Matt Smith.

This isn’t the only good news. This month David Tennant will appear in four special episodes. Executive producer Russell T. Davies talked in an interview about the most popular Doctor Who: “I’ve been lucky and honored to work with David over the past few years and it’s not over yet”, says Davies.

The Tenth Doctor still has five spectacular hours left. After which, I might drop an anvil on his head. Or maybe a piano. A radioactive piano. But we’re planning the most enormous and spectacular ending, so keep watching.”

You definitely wouldn’t like to miss this “happy ending”
